Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California (ACCBC)
Dear CAADE Community:
In the process of obtaining reaccreditation for the CATC credential from the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE aka NOCA/NCCA), we realized the need to clarify the separation between CAADE's education and certification functions. As a result, the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California -- previously known as the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators Certification Committee -- has been established.
As suggested by ICE/NCCA requirements, the certification committee agreed to adopt a name change in order to distinguish our operation as an autonomous board that reviews its various certification standards using CAADE’s tiered system, which is based on degrees obtained from regionally accredited colleges and universities.
Effective July 1, 2012, what was formerly the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators Certification Committee will now be doing business as the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California (an official affiliate of CAADE).
As the board continues to review its certification programs, we will advise others in the field of upcoming changes.
